Memorial Day Weekend

We had perfect weather and a perfect family vacation. Mom and I made a little retaining wall last time we were at the lake and this time we had 8 ton of sand delivered and bam, we now have a little beach and Kai loves it. The boys fished and the girls played in the sand and all was right with the world.

I love dressing Kai. Every day I ask Kai "What do you want to wear today." She comes with me to her closet and takes her sweater off the hangers, while I stand there and look at all her pretty clothes. My favorite brands right now are Persnickety and Giggle Moon, but that changes with the season. Other notable brands are Matilda Jane, Mustard Pie and Monsoon.

Nest

We had these 2 love birds move in a few days ago, well actually they are Mourning Doves. They have been attempting to build a nest since then with not much progress. I am not sure which bird is at fault, but it is the males job to find the sticks and bring them to the nest and the woman's job to weave the sticks into a nest.  So the woman is not the best weaver, but the male is not so bright either as he could just jump down and get the sticks his wife drops, but instead he brings a new stick to her every time. I want to get a big ol' ladder and some glue and make it myself.

Side note:  After many days and no nest they gave up and moved on. I hope they have better luck next time.

Walking

At exactly 13 months Kai is walking more than crawling. It is so fun to see her little unsteady steps traipse around the house. LOVE

Apron fashion

Apron, or as I like to call it "half-a-dress." I have been nursing Kai for over a year now and I have to say I miss wearing dresses. As one can envision, it is  impossible to wear a dress while nursing because pulling a dress up that far to nurse, is just is not a pretty sight. So when I saw the beautiful aprons at Anthropologie I was like, Yes! That is it, it's perfect. These are ingenious girls. I can put on my pretty half a dress and still nurse. I just untie the back and whallla, it becomes a nursing cover.  So Mom's out there fret no more, the half a dress is here. I am not sure why this has not caught on sooner. Mom's wear your half-a-dress proudly, they are not just for the kitchen anymore.

Lake Fun!

We spent a some time at the lake then then headed to Mt. Pleasant to Morel mushroom hunt.   We had tons of fun at the lake with perfect weather and left Mt. Pleasant with pounds of morels. 

Morel Mushroom recipe

Morels
olive oil

1 or 2 large shallots

2 cloves garlic

2 tbs butter 

1/2 cup veggie broth

1 cup heavy whipping cream

salt

rigatoni noodels 

Heat olive oil to med heat add shallots and garlic cook until starting to soften, add butter then morels and a little salt. Cook 5 min, add veggie broth, then cream and cook until thickened,  put over rigatoni noodles and some add parmesan cheese on top.  YUMM

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the March for Babies walk. I always look forward to this walk and the effort it takes to raise money.  I am grateful we can do something positive in Maleani's name. Hopefully, someday March of Dimes finds a way that babies can stay safe in mommy's belly, longer and grow big and strong. We have an amazing Team Maelani this year and I look forward to reuniting with friends and family for the purpose of remembering Maelani and making a difference in other children's futures.  This walk does not elicit any sad feelings like October,  when I know her birthday is approaching and my girl is not turning a year older. This is a happy day. The sun is supposed to shine and there will be smiles all around. (Ok, maybe a few tears when we pass her picture, that's always a tear jerker.)

Messy Face

My dad always ate peanut butter sandwiches with his spaghetti, and now I love peanut butter sandwiches with my spaghetti,  so I thought Kai would like the same same. I did not have the foresight to understand the enormity of a mess this would create.  If you were here Dad you would be helping me clean this smiling face. 

Looking back

I am getting ready to send the first year of this blog to print. I want you to know Kai, I write this blog so when you are 15, 18, or 24, and looking back, please know how much I love you. I would do anything for you, go to the end of the earth for you and a little farther if I had too. I rock you to sleep. I hold you tight. I sing you lullabies all night. I make you smile. I make you laugh.  I play with you to your hearts desire. I will meet your every need, because Kai you mean the world to me.  When you grow up healthy, happy and bright please know I love you with all my heart. I hope you enjoy looking back at your life, because I have enjoyed being a part of it.
